چکیده

i?&bQ!k A total of 200 normal human corneas (age: 6 months 92 years) were collected among bodies intended for autopsy. Pathological comeal buttons were obtained from patients undergoing penetrating keratoplasty for keratoconus, Fuchs’ end&&xl dyamphy, postcataract endothelial dystrophy, and others. The keratocyte density was assessed using a quantitative meawem eat of the stmmal DNA-content. The endothelial cell density was counted after alitin staining. Besults: The cellularity of normal human corneas varied as timction of age. Significant differences in the cellularity of comeal dystrophies were observed when cornoared to aae-matched controls.

CLINICAL SCIENCE Long-Term Follow-Up of the Corneal Endothelium After Artisan Lens Implantation for Unilateral Traumatic and Unilateral Congenital Cataract in Children

Purpose: To retrospectively estimate the long-term corneal endothelial cell loss in children after perforating corneal trauma and implantation of an iris-fixated anterior-chamber intraocular lens (IOL), either the Artisan aphakia lens or the Artificial Iris Implant, and to compare this corneal endothelial cell loss to that in children who received an Artisan aphakia lens to correct aphakia afte...

Endothelial cell loss and corneal thickness after intracapsular extraction and iris clip lens implantation: a randomised controlled trial (interim report).

Patients in a randomised controlled trial were chosen either to have iris clip lens implantation after intracapsular cataract extraction or intracapsular extraction only. They were assessed in terms of corneal thickness, postoperative epithelial oedema, and endothelial cell counts. All patients had 1 eye submitted to operation, which was carried out by the same surgeon. There was significantly ...

Treatment of ophidism-induced bilateral canine cataract by extracapsular lens extraction and intraocular lens implantation

The aim of this study was to report a new cause of cataract, namely snake bite induced cataract in a dog. A 3-year-old male mongrel dog was referred to our clinic for the assessment of cataract in both eyes. The dog was bitten by a snake nearly 4 months ago. A 40 dioptre acrylic lens with 13 mm haptics was implanted into the lens capsule. In the left eye, posterior synechia was detected in the ...

Change in Astigmatism After Temporal Clear Corneal Cataract Extraction in the Pediatric Population

PURPOSE To evaluate the early postoperative change in astigmatism in pediatric patients having cataract extraction with intraocular lens implantation using sutured temporal clear corneal incision. METHODS A retrospective chart review was performed on all pediatric patients who underwent clear corneal cataract surgery with intraocular lens implantation between 12/01/2005 and 11/30/2006. RESU...

Comparison of the effects of intraocular irrigating solutions on the corneal endothelium in intraocular lens implantation.

We conducted a randomised prospective controlled study to determine the effects of a glucose glutathione bicarbonate solution (BSS Plus) and a citrate acetate bicarbonate solution (S-MA2) on the corneal endothelium in patients undergoing extracapsular cataract extraction with posterior chamber lens implantation. One eye of each patient was randomly assigned to receive BSS Plus, and the other ey...
